Northern Plains Pictorial Model Tipi
Model tipi, on native tanned hide, with polychrome painted buffalo hunt scene in bright pigment, featuring horseback hunters with weapons at the ready. Hide is soft and supple, colors are strong. Assembled for display with 13 poles and tacked to a bent wood circular frame. (The poles and frame are later additions, as is usual). Tipi is circa last quarter, 19th century. Assembled measures 23" to top of hide, 33" to top of poles. 16" diameter at the base. At almost three feet tall, it is a great, showy example of a classic model tipi.
